Low Carbon Fuels Fund Opens £93m application call for Sustainable Aviation Fuel projects.

The UK Department for Transport (DfT) has launched the Low Carbon Fuels Fund (LCFF) to support the United Kingdom's advanced Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) sector. It is aimed at the development of investable commercial projects capable of significantly reducing near-term UK aviation emissions, as well as strengthen the UK project pipeline and broaden technology options.

The first window of the LCFF will competitively allocate up to £93 million in grant funding to support successful projects until 31 March 2028. DfT will look to primarily focus funding on a small number of first-of-a-kind (FOAK) commercial scale projects that require support to reach a near-term Final Investment Decision (FID). The fund will also be open to support a larger number of projects during earlier engineering design stages as well as demonstration scale projects, albeit at a lower level of funding per project.

Eligible projects must be at specific development stages, covering Pre-front-end engineering and design (Pre-FEED), Front-end engineering and design (FEED) and Detailed Design within Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC).

The fund does not support feasibility studies, procurement of equipment or EPC licence fees. Construction, installation, commissioning and operational activities are also excluded.

Applications are primarily expected from private sector commercial organisations, and may be submitted by a single organisation or by a consortium or partnership. Where an application involves multiple project partners, a lead organisation must be identified. The lead organisation will receive the grant funding and must agree to the grant conditions.
