Appeal against decisions on UK protected geographical food and drink names

Last updated 22 March 2021

Who can appeal

You can make an appeal if you're affected by, or have a legitimate interest in, a decision to:

  • register or not register a GI product
  • amend or not amend a GI product specification
  • cancel or not cancel the registration of a GI product

For cancellations, you must be able to show you rely on the product name for your business.

See a list of products being considered for the UK GI scheme registers.

How to appeal

You have 28 calendar days to appeal from the date a decision is published.

Follow the guidance on how to appeal and get the form you need from HM Courts and Tribunals Service.
