Brexit: Geo-blocking of online content after EU exit

4 February 2020

Geo-blocking rules when selling to and buying from the European Union during the transition period

The Geo-Blocking Regulation came into force in the UK in December 2018. The regulation prohibits blocking access to, or forced redirection away from, a website on the basis of an internet user's EU nationality or place of residence within the European Union.

The regulation will remain in force in the UK at least until the end of the Brexit transition period, scheduled to be 31 December 2020.
