Consultation on the Waste Prevention Programme

21 January 2020

Have your say on DAERA's Waste Prevention Programme for Northern Ireland

The Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) is seeking views on its Waste Prevention Programme for Northern Ireland 2019.

The consultation includes a review of the 2013 Waste Prevention Programme ‘Road to Zero Waste’ and defining areas for action in the 2019 Waste Prevention Programme 'Stopping Waste in its Tracks'.

The aims of the 2019 Programme include:

  • maintaining a downward trend in waste arisings
  • contributing to meeting EU landfill diversion targets
  • supporting and promoting resource efficiency and sustainable use
  • ensuring a shift towards a more circular economy

Responses will be used to inform waste prevention policy following the transition to a post EU Exit environment and the introduction of the Circular Economy Waste Package (CEWP).

The closing date for the consultation is Wednesday 18 March 2020.

Download the consultation letter, a summary of the scheme and find ways to respond to the consultation on the DAERA website.
