Extension of the Asymptomatic Testing Programme for workplaces in Northern Ireland

From 10 March 2021, employers from key sectors within Northern Ireland have been able to access the national testing programme as part of a targeted expansion of asymptomatic testing.

The first phase of the programme was open to the public sector and four priority sectors within the private sector:

  • agri-food
  • manufacturing
  • essential retail
  • construction

From the week beginning 5 April, the Asymptomatic Testing Programme will be extended to include all private sector companies, regardless of sector, with more than 50 employees who cannot work from home.

There are plans to expand the programme to all private sector companies of any size. Further details of this phase will be published shortly.

Lateral Flow Tests will be used in the rollout of the workplace testing initiative and will help in the expansion of asymptomatic testing across a range of settings in Northern Ireland.
