Opportunities for local businesses to tap into the talent and skills available from QUB students with a Master’s degree
Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) offer placement opportunities to businesses on an annual basis. Local companies can access this talent pool to offer suitable work placements to students studying a Master’s degree in International Business Law. Students seeking placements in their second/final year will already have completed study modules focused on:
- corporate governance and compliance
- global business and human rights
- international competition law
- international financial regulation
Why take on a student placement?
About 35-40 per cent of QUB law graduates enter the legal sector, with the remaining graduates being employed by wider industry. Research has shown that law graduates’ transferable skills, aptitude for learning and strong leadership and communication abilities make them an attractive prospect for companies operating outside the legal industry.
The one-year placement would be paid for by the company (and could commence in July or September 2020).
Businesses who have benefited
Offering work experience opportunities can bring fresh ideas and approaches. For many businesses, it can open up new and emerging markets.

Problem-solving and project-based learning
In September 2020, QUB is launching a Master’s course in Law and Technology, which will focus on the role of law in regulating technology and technology’s position in transforming governance and legal practice.
The course has been developed in response to rapid technological advancements which are impacting organisations of all sizes – both in terms of the way that they operate and the challenges they have to navigate.
QUB is keen to hear from employers who have potential project-based learning opportunities, which require critical thinking that students could work on. Participating students would demonstrate their knowledge by successfully completing a project or solving a problem.
