EU Settlement Scheme: Helping EU workers apply to stay in Northern Ireland after 30 June 2021

Guide

If you employ workers from the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss citizens, you can take a number of practical steps to help minimise the impact that the UK leaving the EU may have on your business and staff.

Who should apply?

If you employ workers from the EU, EEA or Switzerland, you should make them aware of what they have to do to remain in the UK.

They and their family can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021. If their application is successful, they will get either settled or pre-settled status.

They can also apply if they’re the family member of an eligible person of Northern Ireland.

Your employees may be able to stay in the UK without applying - for example, if they have indefinite leave to remain.

Irish citizens do not need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme. There are separate arrangements for Irish citizens, who will continue to benefit from the Common Travel Area.

Is there a fee for the EU Settlement Scheme?

It is free to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme.

Is there a deadline for applying to the EU Settlement Scheme?
