Free training for licensed trade staff

Licensed trade in Mid and East Antrim can access free Serve Smart training to help staff make informed decisions about the responsible sale and service of alcohol.

The training has been developed by ASCERT through the Mid and East Antrim Policing and Community Safety Partnership's Drugs and Alcohol Programme, in partnership with the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

It is aimed at staff working in pubs, clubs, restaurants and off-licences. The training covers:

• alcohol misuse and recommended drinking guidelines
• the effects of alcohol on the body
• recognising potential risks
• managing challenging situations
• promoting responsible drinking and safer environments

Alcohol-related harm can contribute to antisocial behaviour and public disorder. It can also affect businesses, families, policing and frontline services.

Serve Smart provides practical support to help staff feel more confident when making difficult decisions. It forms part of wider work to reduce alcohol-related harm and support safer licensed premises and communities across Mid and East Antrim.

Training materials will be available by scanning the QR code on information leaflets distributed to licensed premises across the Borough.
