Earth observation missions and technology innovation call 1

The UK Space Agency is inviting UK organisations to apply for funding to develop innovative Earth observation (EO) technologies. Projects must develop early-stage EO instrumentation or hardware at Technology Readiness Levels 1 to 4.

The call is particularly interested in projects linked to:

  • climate monitoring
  • environmental applications
  • commercial opportunities
  • dual-use technologies

Projects may also cover areas such as miniaturisation, onboard processing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, where the Earth observation benefits are clear.

Software-only projects, space weather projects and downstream data processing are not eligible.

Up to £1.4 million is available under this competition. Applicants can request up to £200,000 for projects lasting up to 12 months and ending by 31 October 2027.

Any UK organisation can lead an application. Partnerships between businesses and academic institutions are encouraged but are not required.

Applicants must explain how their project could progress the technology and deliver future commercial or scientific benefits. Applications should include a route to market, further funding or other future development.

Applications close at 11:59pm on 1 September 2026.

Businesses planning to apply should email UKSA.EOT@DSIT.gov.uk by 21 August 2026 with their project name, lead organisation and technology type.

Read the call guidance and application documents on GOV.UK website.
