Have your say on a new Energy Strategy for Northern Ireland

17 December 2019

Call for evidence on the next step in plan to reach target of net zero emissions in Northern Ireland

The Department for the Economy has launched a call for evidence to inform the development of a new Energy Strategy for Northern Ireland.

In June 2019, the UK became the first major economy in the world to pass laws to end its contribution to global warming by 2050. The ‘net zero’ emissions target will require the UK to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. A reduction in energy-related emissions is a significant part of this.

This call for evidence is part of an ongoing public engagement process designed to inform and shape proposals which will be presented to a future Minister for the Economy.

Evidence is sought around a number of key topics:

  • energy in Northern Ireland
  • local energy transition
  • energy consumers
  • heat
  • power
  • transport
  • other issues

You can download the call for evidence guidance and the response template from the Department for the Economy website.

Responses should be forwarded to or posted to:

The closing date for responses is 20 March 2020.
