Offensive weapons and stopping imports of illegal weapons

Introduction

Many businesses bring firearms and offensive weapons into the UK for legitimate reasons. These may include registered firearms dealers, farms, zoos, antique dealers, museums, galleries, universities and businesses that supply the police and other legitimate individuals.

Border Force works alongside other government departments and agencies to prevent the import of illegal firearms and offensive weapons.

All firearms - except low-powered air weapons - and many offensive weapons are controlled at the time of import into the UK. All imports of firearms need to be licensed. The import of flick and gravity knives is totally prohibited.

This guide explains firearms controls and which offensive weapons are banned or restricted and which are not. It also outlines the penalties for anyone involved in importing firearms or offensive weapons illegally.
