Trade mission to Africa

8 August 2019

Explore business opportunities in Africa

From 18-22 November 2019 Invest NI will be hosting a Trade Mission visit to Africa.

The trade mission will focus on South Africa and Nigeria, however depending on business opportunity, you may be required to travel elsewhere. The trade mission is open to Invest NI client companies wishing to develop their exports into a new market or to grow their existing business relationships and support customers.

South Africa and Nigeria are both emerging and import dependent markets offering a multitude of export opportunities for local companies. The five day multi-sector trade mission will focus on Johannesburg and Lagos.

This mission will be multi-sectoral and open to companies wishing to develop their exports to this region.

Why attend?

South Africa

With a population of over 53 million and a growing middle class, South Africa provides exporters with an already well-developed export market and an access route to markets as far north as the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The key opportunities and industry sectors for Northern Ireland companies in South Africa are mining, waste management, agriculture, security, energy, ICT, food and drink and healthcare. South Africa is one of the top 10 markets in terms of whiskey consumption.

Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country with a population of over 180 million and is a strategic market for companies with a long-term view to operating in West Africa. Lagos, the commercial heart of Nigeria, has an economy larger than that of Ghana. Most sectors are still widely underserviced, with little local manufacturing taking place and consumers are thus very much dependent on imported goods.

The key opportunities and industry sectors for Northern Ireland companies in Nigeria are materials handling, education, ICT, infrastructure and logistics, food and drink, life sciences.
