The Department for Communities' Employment Service works with employers to offer young jobseekers aged 18 to 24 years old the opportunity to obtain meaningful work experience through the Youth Employment Scheme (YES).
To be eligible for the Youth Employment Scheme work experience programme, you must:
- be aged 18-24
- be in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), (or not claiming benefit but are unemployed and actively seeking full-time employment) for five weeks or more
- not have reached the eligibility point for mandatory entry to the Steps 2 Success programme
The scheme is entirely voluntary and helps young people to undertake work experience and develop skills needed to get and retain a job. Placements can last between two and eight weeks and give young people the chance to try out various tasks in a real work situation.
If taking part in the scheme, you will not be asked to make any payment to the young person – participants will retain their benefit entitlement during the period of work experience.
