Youth Employment Scheme: providing short work placements to support young people

The Department for Communities' Employment Service works with employers to offer young jobseekers aged 18 to 24 years old the opportunity to obtain meaningful work experience through the Youth Employment Scheme (YES).

The scheme is entirely voluntary and helps young people to undertake work experience and develop skills needed to get and retain a job. Placements can last between two and eight weeks and give young people the chance to try out various tasks in a real work situation.

If taking part in the scheme, you will not be asked to make any payment to the young person – participants will retain their benefit entitlement during the period of work experience.

For further information on the Youth Employment Scheme contact your local Jobs and Benefits office or JobCentre where Employment Service staff will be available to advise how you can become involved.
