Call for input into current trading arrangements with the Maldives

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has launched an eight week call for input on a goods-only Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Republic of Maldives.

The consultation is inviting businesses, organisations and individuals to help shape the UK’s negotiating aims.

The Maldives is one of a very small number of Commonwealth countries which the UK is pursuing an FTA with that does not have any kind of trade agreement at present.

The responses and input from interested stakeholders will inform and shape aspects of the mandate for this trade agreement.

Consultation description

DBT want to know:

  • what you think about the current trading arrangements with the Maldives
  • where DBT could make changes or improvements
  • where you are facing challenges or constraints when attempting to trade with the Maldives

DBT will use this information to help inform their approach for starting negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Maldives in the future.

All responses should be submitted via the online consultation platform.
