Consultation on a WEEE compliance fee for 2022

Views sought on if a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment compliance fee for 2022 should be set, and how this should be managed

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) wants know if you think there should be a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) compliance fee set for 2022. Defra also wants to know your thoughts on two proposals for how the fee should be managed in 2022.

The UK WEEE Regulations 2013 established a system in which producers of equipment are required to finance the cost of collection, treatment, recovery and recycling of WEEE arising from private households. The WEEE Regulations established a system of annual collection targets that are imposed on producer compliance schemes (PCSs).

If a company does not meet their annual WEEE collection targets, they can comply with the 2013 WEEE regulations by paying a compliance fee instead. Defra agrees on whether a compliance fee should be used and how it is administered annually through calls for views.

The call for views closes at 11:45pm on Monday 14 November 2022.
