Explore V2X opportunities for doing business in the USA

Innovate UK is inviting innovative UK businesses to apply for a place at their latest Global Business Innovation Programme (GBIP) in the USA.

This programme focuses on vehicle-grid integration, encompassing both:

  • managed charging (smart charging or V1G)
  • bi-directional charging (V2X or vehicle-to-everything)

It includes:

  • a preparation phase
  • a seven-day innovation visit to the USA in September 2024
  • a post-visit exploitation workshop with follow-up support from an Innovate UK innovation and growth specialist

The UK government has invested over £30 million in bi-directional charging development and real-world demonstrations since 2018, to accelerate V2X adoption by both domestic and commercial users.

UK companies have generated valuable experience which can be shared with US V2X colleagues, and this GBIP aims to open new business opportunities for the UK products and services developed.

Who can apply

Applications are welcome from innovative UK companies working on bi-directional charging solutions to unlock and expand the energy flexibility potential of electric vehicles (EVs).

This includes companies developing novel V2X hardware, software or commercial flexibility propositions focused on the transport/energy interface.

Solutions for both domestic and commercial customers, using any of the mainstream EV charging protocols to provide energy storage and flexibility services are within scope.

How to apply

Full details of the programme and an online application form are available from Innovate UK.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on 19 June 2024.

Potential applicants can register to join an online briefing on 7 May 2024 to learn more.
