Have your say on FSA's regulated product consultations
Food Standards Agency (FSA) has launched two regulated product consultations on applications submitted for authorisation of products to be placed on the Great Britain market
These consultations seek stakeholders' views on the applications being considered, along with other legitimate factors (other evidence further supporting clear, rational, and justifiable risk analysis, such as consumer interests, technical feasibility, and environmental factors), including those identified as relevant to these applications.
Genetically modified organisms (GMO) consultation
Views are sought in relation to regulated product applications for eight GMOs for food and feed uses, which have been submitted for authorisation, and for the change of authorisation holder for 51 authorised GMOs.
This consultation will be of most interest to:
- animal feed manufacturers, importers/exporters and retailers
- trade bodies representing stakeholders on food, feed, agriculture and the environment
- all feed purchasers, including for food and non-food producing animals
- trade unions representing stakeholders in the farming industry
- consumers
- organisations representing consumer interests in the feed and food-chains
- enforcement authorities
Find more information and the response form in the consultation pack for the GMO consultation. The deadline for responses is 6 December 2022.
Miscellaneous regulated products consultation
Views are sought in relation to applications for authorisation of miscellaneous regulated products: two novel foods, one flavouring and one food additive.
This consultation will be of most interest to:
- food industry trade associations
- UK food business operators wishing to use novel foods, flavouring or food additive
- enforcement authorities, including District Councils and Port Health Authorities
- consumers and wider stakeholders

Relevance to Northern Ireland
Both consultations are UK wide. In Northern Ireland, the European Union food law on GMOs, novel foods, food additives and flavourings continues to apply, under the current terms of the Protocol. The regulated products included within these consultations are authorised for use in Northern Ireland, therefore, authorising in England, Scotland and Wales would not result in divergence within the UK.
