IPO consultation on Standard Essential Patents for SMEs

News article

Are you a small or medium-sized business using Standard Essential Patents (SEPs)?

The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) is inviting smaller sized businesses to respond to a short questionnaire asking about their experiences when interacting with, or using, SEPs when innovating.

Last year, the IPO led a call for views to gather evidence on whether the framework around SEPs is functioning efficiently and effectively, and if it strikes the right balance for all types and sizes of businesses involved.

Following the conclusion of the call for views, the government published a summary of responses in August 2022.

While the call for view generated responses from larger organisations, the IPO didn't hear sufficient evidence directly from UK SMEs, small-cap and mid-cap businesses.

This questionnaire offers an opportunity for businesses in this category to have their say.

The deadline for submitting responses is Monday 24 April 2023.

To assist you in the completion of this questionnaire, a short instructive video is available to watch. For any enquiries, contact sepcallforviews@ipo.gov.uk.
