Charter highlights sector's role in tackling climate and biodiversity crisis

The Creative Industries Council has published a new Climate Charter setting out shared goals and principles for the creative sector to engage in tackling climate change.

The Charter, endorsed by industry members, outlines how the sector can use its "collective imagination, economic influence and leadership" to reduce its environmental impact and find practical and scalable solutions to tackling the climate crisis.

To meet the aims of this Charter, leaders of creative industries organisations will commit to eight principles, including:

  • setting measurable ambitious targets to reduce environmental impact
  • using storytelling and inspiring narratives to engage audiences and drive positive change
  • prioritising environmental training, tools and learning for the creative workforce

The Charter fulfils a major commitment of the Sector Vision for the creative industries agreed between industry and government earlier in 2023. It highlights the sector's unique ability to be a role model for change and play a growing role in tackling environmental challenges.
