Skills gaps and shortages in the UK screen industries

ScreenSkills has launched a major new study to better understand the extent of skills shortages and gaps in the UK screen industries.

The study will provide up-to-date information on workforce skills and training, which will be used to inform ongoing efforts around skills development, including regional needs across the UK, and investments in skills and training.

All those with hiring or crewing up responsibilities within the development, production or post-production of animation, film, tv, post-production or VFX across the UK, are invited to share their views.

The survey will ask you questions on:

  • skills shortages and difficult-to-fill roles
  • skills gaps within the current workforce for which you have responsibility
  • future skills needs, including the impacts of new and emerging technologies
  • training interventions which would be useful in addressing skills gaps

By completing this 15-minute survey, you’ll help shape the training provision for the sector and strengthen talent pipelines vital to your projects.

The results from this survey will be analysed and used in a report, which will be published by ScreenSkills and made freely available to the sector.

Complete the survey now.

The survey will close for responses on 30 November 2025.
