Apprenticeships explained for employers
Apprenticeships in Northern Ireland is a work-based programme designed around the needs of employers. It will offer recognised training and qualifications to new and existing employees aged 16 and over, across a wide range of apprenticeships at Level 2 and Level 3. Opportunities are also available through the Higher Level Apprenticeships pilot project for new employees or existing employees in a new job role wishing to gain qualifications from Level 4 to Level 8.
Apprenticeships qualifications explained
An apprenticeship can give your employee the training and qualifications they need to get ahead and meet your business needs. The qualifications for Level 2 and Level 3 are set out in a framework. They have been devised by industry bodies together with the Sector Skills Council and are therefore tailored to ensure they meet the needs of your industry. Funding for Apprenticeships training costs are provided by the Department for the Economy (DfE) and an incentive payment is available for employers whose employees successfully complete the Apprenticeships programme at Level 2 and Level 3. Higher Level Apprenticeship pilots do not currently offer a financial incentive for employers however the other non-financial incentives for employing an apprentice apply.

Getting an apprentice started on an Apprenticeship
You may have a potential apprentice on your workforce; if not and you want to employ one, it is really like finding any other employee.
Recruitment to the ApprenticeshipsNI programme will commence on 4 September 2017. It is anticipated that this is the date that the Apprentice can start on the programme. An employer is free to recruit an Apprentice in advance of that date, however the 'off-the-job' training element cannot commence until after this date.
