Labelling food products

Using the EU organic production logo

If your business produces, prepares, stores, imports from a non-European Union (EU) country or markets pre-packaged organic products, you must begin labelling all your pre-packaged organic products using the official EU organic production logo.

A 'pre-packaged product' is a single item that is presented for sale to the ultimate consumer and to mass caterers. It consists of a foodstuff and the packaging it was put into before being put on sale.

You can use the logo for any organic product, including products imported from countries outside the EU.

You must put the control body's code number on any product claiming organic status - even if the logo is not needed, eg for non pre-packaged food.

The logo is a registered collective trade mark and must conform to certain sizing and colouring rules. EU organic logo and food labelling rules.
