Labelling food products

Using the EU organic production logo

You must label all your pre-packaged organic products using the official EU organic production logo if your business either:

  • produces, prepares, stores, imports from a non-EU country
  • markets pre-packaged organic products

A 'pre-packaged product' is a single item sold to the consumers and  caterers. It consists of a foodstuff and its packaging.

You can use the logo for any organic product, including products imported from countries outside the EU.

You must put the control body's code number on any product claiming organic status - even if the logo is not needed, eg for non pre-packaged food.

The logo is a registered collective trade mark and must conform to certain sizing and colouring rules. See EU organic logo and food labelling rules.

After Brexit you must not use the EU organic logo on any UK organic food or feed after the UK leaves the EU unless equivalency is agreed. You can continue to use your UK organic control body logo.
