Case Study

Andrew Porter, Director of Peak Discovery Group who run the Clearsky Adventure Centre, explains how they created a screen tourism experience.

The Clearsky Adventure Centre is based at Castle Ward Estate in County Down, where a number of scenes from the popular TV show Game of Thrones were filmed. The business took advantage of this by offering Game of Thrones themed experiences such as archery, boat tours and cycling tours.

Here Andrew explains how they identified this business opportunity, worked with the production company and promoted this tourism experience.

Andrew's top tips

  • "Speak to the production company. Don’t be scared of them - get on the phone to them and email them."
  • "Research other screen tourism businesses globally. See what they are doing well and what you can learn from them for your own business."
  • "Know the show, know it well, and particularly know where the filming locations are."
